Simpson was named Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year during his senior season after throwing for 2,827 yards and 41 touchdowns to just three interceptions, while also rushing for 862 yards and 11 scores. He led Westview to the Tennessee 2A state title in 2021. As a junior, he passed for 1,888 yards and 20 touchdowns on 203 attempts while rushing for 311 yards and seven touchdowns.
